What is the difference between BW, CW, A1/A2, and E1W brass cable glands?
BRASS CABLE GLANDS are of utmost importance for not only but also a secure and reliable cable termination in electrical systems of industrial and commercial use. The decision on which type of gland is to be used is made based on the cable composition and the environment where it is to be installed as well as the protection needed. The different types of glands like BW, CW, A1/A2, and E1W are made for particular purposes.
Brass Cable Glands BW, being the foremost in the list, are used in mainly indoor applications with armoured cable. They grip the armour very tightly giving it not only mechanical but also earthing strength. However, they do not seal the outer sheath, making them suitable for places where moisture and dust are hardly a concern.
Similar to BW, CW Brass Cable Glands do have extra sealing in place to protect the cable’s outer sheath which is the only difference between them and BW glands. This is the reason why CW glands are better suited for outdoor or damp environments where the resistance of ingress of dust and water is a must.
Brass A1/A2 Cable Glands are the ones used for unarmoured cables. A1 is the type used indoors while the ones for A2 are for better sealing and hence outdoors or under more difficult conditions. These glands are concerned only with unarmoured cable installations, providing a tight grip and protection from environmental elements.
Heavy-duty E1W Brass Cable Glands are for very demanding industrial conditions. They perform very well in sealing, strong clamping of armour and stress relief, hence the harshest places are factories, chemical plants, and infrastructure projects.
One of the manufacturers is PIONEER POWER INTERNATIONAL which not only produces but also delivers a wide range of BRASS CABLE GLANDS that are compliant with international standards thus assuring reliable performance, durability, and safety in various electrical applications.
